Launch of the online Corporate Citizenship Strategic Planning and Assessment Tool, version 2.0

September 1st, 2006

Following feedback from GLN members, the GLN team with the technical support of IBM has recently applied a number of enhancements to the online platform. Most notably, a Multi-user functionality has been introduced to the online tool to allow for internal comparison and cross-assessment, while both the questions and the supporting examples have been updated to reflect members’ comments, the accumulated experience of the last two years of GLN work and recent developments in corporate citizenship thinking.

Overview and key features

The online tool follows a three stage process, Diagnosis, Assessment and Planning, where each stage builds on the previous one. Users begin by determining the key drivers of their CC strategy. Through the GLN framework and with the support of illustrative examples and case studies, users then rate their company’s corporate citizenship performance and assess the potential contribution of each selected CC driver to the company’s business strategy. Based on the submitted information, the tool generates a series of quantitative results and identifies any gaps between performance and potential. The user can review these results and use them to design an action plan to maximize the alignment of the CC driver with core strategy.

The main features of the online tool are outlined below:

  • Quantitative and qualitative benchmarking
  • Users are presented with scores, rankings and gap analyses on their CC performance and potential each CC driver demonstrates in contributing to business strategy. Users can review case studies tailored to each CC category and compare practices from other leading companies to their own.
  • Multi-user functionality
  • The online tool enables members to benchmark internally, as well as externally, between different areas, departments and business functions.
  • Automated reporting
  • The online tool generates two sets of reports, an Executive Summary and a Detailed report, which communicate quantitative and qualitative results and analyses to the user.
  • Best-practice case studies
  • The online tool draws on a database of over one hundred continuously updated case studies which support learning by acting both as illustrative and comparative examples.
