GLN Leadership, Learning and Benchmarking meeting

November, 2006

The Global Leadership Network held its first Global Forum since its launch in February 2006 in New York, on November 27 & 28 2006. The event was held at Pfizer’s NYC headquarters and was attended by representatives from GE, IBM, Nokia, Pfizer, Omron, Cemex, Diageo, Cargill, 3M, and Prudential, as well as GLN Brasil, through Philips L. America and GLN’s partner, REVER Consulting. Finally, Professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter, of the Harvard Business School, facilitated a session on how responsible, innovative practices create unique opportunities for business.

The GLN Steering Committee (SC) officially welcomed Nokia, Pfizer and Prudential as the new members of the Committee and discussed the GLN’s progress to date, the role of the GLN going forward, the enhancement of the online strategic planning and assessment tool and looked at some of the key issues members are facing in their citizenship practices.

The main day of the event saw the official launch of the GLN Tier 3 Leadership, Learning and Benchmarking Group. Members discussed their experiences and insights on the alignment of innovation and corporate citizenship and leadership, their approaches to identifying material issues and how innovation can integrate those issues into business strategy.

Innovation requires a focused effort by the business, and the identification of a select few issues that align best with business priorities and/ or the business’ main abilities. If the subject of innovation is well chosen, and the operational enablers in place, then the business can take responsible innovations to scale, profit from them, and at the same time meet business needs and social needs.

The next GLN Leadership, Learning and Benchmarking meeting will take place in Kyoto, Japan on March 14 & 15, 2007.
